Ocean City’s 3-mile Boardwalk runs from the Inlet at the south end up to 27th St, lined with hotels, amusement rides, and iconic food stands like Thrasher’s and Fisher’s Popcorn. North of the Boardwalk, Coastal Highway continues through midtown and North Ocean City up to 145th St, home to larger resort hotels and national chains. On the bay side, sunset bars and crab houses line the water, and West Ocean City across the Rt. 50 bridge is home to the fishing marina and several waterfront restaurants. Just south of town, Assateague Island’s wild ponies and undeveloped beaches are a quintessential OC day trip.

- Decide which stretch fits your trip. The Boardwalk has the rides, arcades, and nightlife; North Ocean City (40th-145th St) is quieter and more resort-oriented; the bayside has sunset bars and crab houses.
- Summer is the peak season. Memorial Day through Labor Day brings the biggest crowds and highest rates — book well ahead for a Boardwalk hotel in July.
- Assateague Island is worth a full day. The wild ponies and undeveloped beach are about 20 minutes south of town — bring cash for the park entrance fee.
- Many restaurants and crab houses are seasonal. Some close or reduce hours outside the Memorial Day-Labor Day season — call ahead if visiting in the off-season.
