Planning Tips for This Area
- Decide which stretch of Boardwalk fits your trip. The south Boardwalk (Inlet to about 14th St) has the busiest nightlife and rides; the north end (up to 27th St) is a bit quieter.
- North Ocean City (40th-145th St) is a different pace. It’s still oceanfront but more resort-hotel-driven and less walkable to the Boardwalk itself.
- Summer weekends book up fast. Memorial Day through Labor Day is Ocean City’s peak season — reserve well ahead, especially for Boardwalk-facing rooms.
- Many independent Boardwalk motels are small, family-run properties. Book directly with the property when possible — several don’t participate in the major OTAs.
Should I stay on the Boardwalk or in North Ocean City?
The Boardwalk puts you steps from the rides, arcades, and restaurants; North Ocean City (40th St and up) is quieter, more resort-hotel-driven, and better if you want a car-based trip with less foot traffic.
Is Ocean City, MD a good winter destination too?
It’s primarily a summer beach destination (Jun-Aug), though the Boardwalk stays open with reduced hours year-round and many hotels offer much lower off-season rates.
