Downtown Asheville and the South Slope brewery district sit at the heart of town, walkable from most of the closest boutique hotels. Biltmore Village, just south of downtown, is the entrance to the Biltmore Estate itself and home to its own cluster of hotels and dining. The River Arts District runs along the French Broad River and is still actively rebuilding after Hurricane Helene flooding in September 2024. West Asheville, across the river, has its own distinct restaurant and brewery scene along Haywood Road. And Black Mountain, Lake Lure, and Chimney Rock State Park sit roughly 15-30 minutes east, making for easy half-day or full-day trips.
Planning Tips
- Budget at least 2-3 days. A full day covers the Biltmore Estate alone; add time for downtown, breweries, and at least one day-trip destination.
- Buy Biltmore tickets in advance. Pricing varies by date and ticket tier (House & Grounds vs. Grounds Only), and popular dates sell out.
- Check the Blue Ridge Parkway’s road-status page before a drive. Some sections remain under repair from Hurricane Helene, with full reopening targeted for late 2026.
- Recovery from Hurricane Helene is ongoing. Most major attractions and restaurants have reopened as of 2026, but some businesses in the River Arts District and Biltmore Village are still rebuilding — we verify current operating status on every listing in this guide.

Asheville’s calendar tracks the mountains’ bloom-to-leaf cycle — spring gardens and beer events give way to a packed run of summer craft and folk festivals, then a fall leaf-peeping surge before Biltmore’s famous Christmas display takes over.

How many days should I plan for an Asheville trip?
2-4 days covers the Biltmore Estate, downtown, a brewery or two, and time for at least one day trip — add more if you want to explore the Blue Ridge Parkway or the Chimney Rock/Lake Lure area at a relaxed pace.
Is Asheville still recovering from Hurricane Helene?
Yes, in places. The September 2024 flooding hit the River Arts District and Biltmore Village hard, and some businesses in those areas are still rebuilding as of 2026, even though the vast majority of the city’s hotels, restaurants, and attractions have reopened and are operating normally.
