Planning Tips for This Area
- Decide which stretch of beach you want before booking. The Oceanfront resort strip (roughly 1st to 42nd St) has the Boardwalk, restaurants, and nightlife; Sandbridge and the North End are quieter and more residential.
- Sandbridge is almost entirely house/condo rentals, not hotels. Book through one of the established rental companies well ahead for summer.
- Summer weekends book up fast. Memorial Day through Labor Day is Virginia Beach’s peak season — reserve well ahead, especially for Boardwalk-facing rooms.
- Town Center is a genuinely different kind of stay. It’s an urban, inland district about 15 minutes from the beach — convenient for shopping and dining, but not a beach stay.
Should I stay at the Oceanfront or in Sandbridge?
The Oceanfront resort strip has the Boardwalk, restaurants, and the widest range of hotels; Sandbridge is quieter, more residential, and rental-house-driven — better for families wanting more space and fewer crowds.
Is Virginia Beach a good winter destination too?
It’s primarily a summer beach destination (Jun-Aug), though the Boardwalk, museums, and restaurants stay open year-round with far smaller crowds and lower rates in the off-season.
